Castle Crags State Park is a photographers delight. Located six miles south of Dunsmuir on I-5. The park features 28 miles of hiking trails, including a 2.7 mile access trail to Castle Crags Wilderness, part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
Castle Crags is a well-known rock formation in Northern California. There are hiking trails abound as you can enjoy the majestic and awe inspiring mountains of rock. Scenic views are abundant as you wind through the forest make this a great stop along I-5.
Castle Crags Railroad Motel. That's right, you are looking at the hotel room! The caboose rooms are at the base of the Crags in Dunsmuir, CA. The trains are circled around the swimming pool. Eat on the train and sleep in the caboose and enjoy the scenery.
A great adventure is found at the lava beds in northern California. You'll find incredibly rugged landscape including lava flows, spatter cones, lava tube caves, pit craters and more. Caves can be explored on your own, or with a ranger.
Seagull in flight. We were shooting the breakers over on the coast catcing the sunlight through the wave trying to get that perfect shot. When we got home, we noticed that a seagull decided to get into the photo op. It added the perfect accent to the shot.
The Port of Brookings-Harbor. A docking home to many of the locals, the harbor has restaurants, fishing opportunities, boating and many maritime activities.
It's not everyday that two bucks will pose for you. These beauties were spotted along the way to the lava beds just south of Tule Lake in Northern California.
The redwoods are a place to go when you want to find solitude. These huge giants towering over you gives you an appreciation of nature. The redwoods have many trails you can enjoy, giant ferns and soft quiet surroundings.
You could spend a lot of time in the redwoods just looking at all the ways the forest reproduces itself. Fallen trees laying on the ground with trees growing upward out of the tree that have fallen. Some live to be 2,000 years old and grow to over 300 feet tall.
A small runoff stream found in one of the nicest remaining old growth redwood groves in Oregon. From Brookings, take Hwy 101 south to Curry County road 896 (Winchuck Road) for 1.5 miles. Turn right on a bridge crossing the river. Trail head is at the end of the road.
